My first camera was a Minolta 35mm film camera. Cost me £150 in a second hand camera store in Herne Hill, South London England. I bought some film from a place called Woolworth shortly afterwards, and after a week of shooting only just 36 images, I took the roll of film to my local chemist excited at the prospects. A week later I picked up my developed photos. I unwrapped the sleeve packaging expecting to see gorgeously captured moments. Instead all i was presented with was 36 all black images. Somewhere down the line I had forgotten to roll the film properly into my camera. So all i developed was unexposed frames. Thats probably when I knew i had so much to learn.
Back then film photography was an expensive road to go down, so i eventually ventured into a different area of creativity. I started out in commercial advertising as a designer, then art director, then creative, working for agencies such as Saatchi & Saatchi and Draft FCB. Done the usual grind and late night pitch work, entering award submissions and such. I even won a few. But I always knew that I wanted something that would allow me to have more sense of achievement and purpose.
I've always carried a camera around of some sort with me, from your tiny point and shoot to your everyday camera phone. I enjoyed taking a lot of street photograph and eventually found that I loved creating moments as much as capturing them. Combined with my love of sports, this led me into active lifestyle and sports photography. And over the last 7 years my passion has allowed me to be expressive and experimental. Giving me the opportunity to create commissions for brands such as Runners World UK, Classic Driver Magazine, Ivy Park, H&M and Adidas.
